Ingredients

  • 1 large thick-skinned orange
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup oleo
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 yeast cake
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • about 3 cups bread flour

Instructions

  1. Cut the orange into quarters; remove seeds and white core.
  2. Grind the orange in a blender or food processor.
  3. Add enough water to the juice and pulp to make one cup.
  4. Combine the orange mixture with oleo and salt; bring to a boil.
  5. Cool the mixture to lukewarm; add the yeast cake.
  6. Beat until well blended.
  7. Add enough bread flour to make a stiff dough.
  8. Knead the dough for about 10 minutes on a well-floured board.
  9. Let the dough rise in a warm place until doubled in bulk.
  10. Knead the dough again after rising.
  11. Place the dough in a well-greased loaf pan.
  12. Let the dough rise in the pan.
  13. Bake in a 375°F oven for 45 minutes.
