Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1 1/4 cups sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup milk

Instructions

  1. Soften shortening in a large bowl.
  2. Beat in sugar until smooth. Add eggs and vanilla and beat well.
  3. Mix flour, baking powder, and salt in a separate bowl.
  4. Add half of the flour mixture and half of the milk to the egg mixture and beat 300 strokes.
  5. Add the rest of the flour mixture and milk; beat 300 strokes more.
  6. Fill greased baking pan halfway or divide into pans.
  7. Bake at 375°F (moderate oven) for 25 to 35 minutes or until cake springs back when touched.
