Ingredients

  • 1 Tbsp. softened butter or margarine
  • 3 c. flour
  • 4 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1 c. milk
  • 1 c. raisins
  • 1 egg
  • 3 tsp. caraway seeds

Instructions

  1. Combine butter or margarine, flour, baking powder, salt, sugar, milk, raisins, egg, and caraway seeds in order of listing.
  2. Mix until ingredients are well combined.
  3. Grease and flour an iron frying pan, then pour the batter into it.
  4. Bake in a preheated 400°F oven for 10 minutes.
  5. Reduce the oven temperature to 350°F and continue baking until the bread is done.
  6. Remove from oven and brush the top with milk to keep it soft.
