Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 2 1/2 cups self-rising flour
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 cup milk
  • 3 eggs

Instructions

  1. Cream sugar and shortening together until light and fluffy.
  2. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
  3. Alternately add flour and milk to the creamed mixture, beginning and ending with flour.
  4. Stir in vanilla extract.
  5. Pour batter into a greased baking pan.
  6. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
