Ingredients

  • 7 lb. cucumbers
  • 2 c. pickling lime
  • 2 gal. cold water
  • 5 lb. sugar
  • 2 qt. Twelve Oaks white vinegar
  • 1 Tbsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. celery seed
  • 1 tsp. pickling spices
  • 1 tsp. cloves

Instructions

  1. Wash cucumbers and slice them.
  2. Put the sliced cucumbers in a large enamel pot and add pickling lime and cold water.
  3. Soak for 24 hours.
  4. Drain and wash all remaining lime from the pickles.
  5. Soak the pickles in ice water for 3 hours, then drain well.
  6. Add sugar, vinegar, salt, and celery seed to the pickles.
  7. Tie up the pickling spices and cloves in a tea bag holder.
  8. Soak the pickles overnight after adding the spices.
  9. Bring the mixture to a boil and cook for 30 minutes.
  10. Put the hot pickles into warm jars and seal.
