  • 1/8 tsp. cayenne pepper
  • 1 tsp. lemon juice
  • 1/2 c. chopped walnuts, toasted
  • 2 Tbsp. fresh parsley, chopped

Instructions

  1. In a heavy skillet, sauté shallot and mushrooms in butter; add cayenne pepper, salt, and lemon juice.
  2. Cook over low heat for 20 to 25 minutes or until liquid is absorbed.
  3. Allow to cool.

  7. Garnish with chopped parsley and walnuts.

Tips & Substitutions

To enhance the flavor, consider adding a splash of white wine while sautéing the shallots and mushrooms. For a creamier texture, you can blend the mixture after cooling. If you don't have walnuts, pecans or sunflower seeds can serve as excellent substitutes. Make sure to chop the mushrooms finely to ensure even cooking and absorption of flavors.

Serving Suggestions

This mushroom pâté makes a delightful appetizer when served with assorted crackers or toasted baguette slices. Pair it with a crisp white wine or a light beer for a refreshing contrast. For an elegant touch, serve alongside sliced vegetables or incorporate it into a vegetarian charcuterie board. It also complements dishes like Venezuelan Scrambled Eggs(Perico) beautifully.

Storage & Reheating

Store any leftover mushroom pâté in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week. It can also be frozen for up to three months. To enjoy it again, simply thaw in the refrigerator overnight and bring to room temperature before serving. Avoid reheating in the microwave, as it can alter the texture.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use dried mushrooms instead of fresh ones?

Yes, you can use dried mushrooms, but they need to be rehydrated first. Soak them in warm water for about 20-30 minutes, then drain and chop finely. Keep in mind that dried mushrooms will have a more concentrated flavor, so adjust the quantities according to your taste.

Is this recipe suitable for vegans?

To make this mushroom pâté vegan, substitute the unsalted butter with coconut oil or vegan margarine. Ensure that any additional flavoring agents like Worcestershire sauce are also vegan-friendly. The recipe will still deliver a delicious result while adhering to a plant-based diet.

How can I adjust the spiciness of the pâté?

If you prefer a milder flavor, reduce the cayenne pepper to a pinch or omit it entirely. Alternatively, if you enjoy more heat, consider adding a bit of smoked paprika or a dash of hot sauce. Remember, you can always taste and adjust during cooking to achieve your desired spice level.
