Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/2 cup white Karo syrup
  • 1 cup walnuts or any nuts
  • 2 egg whites
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla
  • pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Mix sugar, water, and white Karo syrup together and boil until the mixture will spin a thread when dropped from a spoon.
  2. Have egg whites beaten stiff and pour half of the hot syrup into the egg whites a little at a time, beating hard.
  3. Return the other half of the syrup to heat and cook until it will form a ball when dropped in a cup of cold water.
  4. Combine all mixtures, beating well, then add nuts, salt, and vanilla.
  5. Beat until the mixture becomes creamy.
  6. Pour into a lightly greased pan or dish.
  7. Allow to cool completely, then cut into squares.
