Ingredients

  • 3 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1 cup light corn syrup
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon or peppermint oil
  • 1 teaspoon red or green food coloring

Instructions

  1. In a large heavy saucepan, combine sugar, corn syrup, and water.
  2. Cook on medium heat until the candy thermometer reads 300° (hard crack stage), stirring occasionally.
  3. Remove from heat; stir in oil and food coloring.
  4. Immediately pour onto an oiled cookie sheet.
  5. Cool; break into pieces.
  6. Store in airtight containers.
