Ingredients

  • 1 cup raisins
  • 1 1/2 cups water
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking soda
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon cloves
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Boil all ingredients together except flour and baking soda. When cool, then add flour and baking soda.
  2. Mix well.
  3. Grease and flour any size pan, preferably a loaf pan.
  4. Pour contents into the prepared pan.
  5. Bake in a slow (350°) oven for approximately 45 minutes.
  6. Let cool before cutting.
  7. Cake can also be frozen for future use.
