Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 tablespoons cocoa
  • 1 teaspoon soda
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. In a saucepan, mix water, cocoa, and shortening together and heat until the shortening melts.
  2. Add the remaining ingredients to the saucepan.
  3. Mix well until smooth.
  4. Pour the batter into a greased and floured 13 x 9-inch cake pan.
  5. Bake at 350°F (175°C) until the cake is done, about 30 minutes.
