- Crush saltines to coarse meal.
- Spread a 1/2-inch layer of saltines in a 1 1/2-quart casserole dish.
- Layer oysters and dots of butter with layers of crackers.
- Add salt and pepper to each layer to your taste.
- Fill the casserole dish to within 1 inch of the top with the remaining crackers and oysters layers.
- Add milk to just cover the cracker layer on top.
- Finish with a couple of dots of butter.
- Bake in a 325°F (160°C) oven for 30 minutes or until the top is golden brown and crusty.
