Ingredients

  • 1/2 lb. saltines
  • 1/2 lb. butter
  • 1 lb. oysters, shelled
  • salt, to taste
  • pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Crush saltines to coarse meal.
  2. Spread a 1/2-inch layer of saltines in a 1 1/2-quart casserole dish.
  3. Layer oysters and dots of butter with layers of crackers.
  4. Add salt and pepper to each layer to your taste.
  5. Fill the casserole dish to within 1 inch of the top with the remaining crackers and oysters layers.
  6. Add milk to just cover the cracker layer on top.
  7. Finish with a couple of dots of butter.
  8. Bake in a 325°F (160°C) oven for 30 minutes or until the top is golden brown and crusty.
