Ingredients

  • 1 package yeast
  • 1/3 cup lukewarm water
  • 3 eggs
  • 1/2 cup shortening, melted
  • 1/3 cup milk, room temperature
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3 cups sifted all-purpose flour

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, dissolve yeast in lukewarm water and let stand for 10 minutes.
  2. Drop eggs into a mixing bowl; add melted shortening, milk, dissolved yeast, sugar, and salt.
  3. Beat well and begin working in the sifted all-purpose flour. Knead continuously in the bowl until the dough is smooth and elastic.
  4. Cover the dough and let rest in a warm place for 45 minutes or until doubled in size.
  5. Punch down the dough and cut off small pieces about the size of a walnut.
  6. Place the dough pieces in a greased muffin pan.
  7. Let the rolls rise in a warm place until they are as high as the pan.
  8. Bake in a preheated 400°F oven for 8 to 12 minutes.
  9. Remove from oven and brush hot rolls with margarine for added flavor.
