Party Nut Rolls are flaky, sweet pastries filled with chopped walnuts and a hint of vanilla, perfect for celebrations or as a delightful treat for nut lovers.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 pound margarine or butter
  • 6 egg yolks
  • 2 yeast cakes
  • 3 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 4 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 6 cups chopped walnuts

Instructions

  1. Warm the milk to lukewarm and combine with the butter.
  2. In a large bowl, mix flour, egg yolks, and vanilla extract.
  3. Crumble the yeast cakes and add 3 tablespoons of sugar until melted.
  4. Add the yeast mixture to the flour and egg mixture along with the salt.
  5. Pour in the milk and butter mixture and mix well.
  6. Cover tightly and refrigerate overnight.
  7. Next day, chop 6 cups of walnuts and divide into 6 equal portions.
  8. Beat the egg whites and slowly add 1½ cups of sugar.
  9. Divide the egg white mixture into 6 equal balls.
  10. Roll out one ball of dough very thin.
  11. Spread one portion of egg whites over the dough and sprinkle with one cup of chopped nuts, then roll the dough like a cinnamon roll.
  12. Repeat the process with remaining dough portions.
  13. Place 2 rolls on a cookie sheet.
  14. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 25 to 30 minutes or until golden brown.
  15. Allow to cool slightly before serving.
