Tips & Substitutions

For an extra kick, consider adding cayenne pepper or chili powder to the rub. If you don't have lemon pepper, a mixture of lemon zest and black pepper can work as a substitute. When prepping your meat, letting it sit at room temperature for 30 minutes before cooking can enhance the flavor absorption. This rub is versatile and works well on vegetables for a vegan option too.

Serving Suggestions

This peppered dry rub pairs beautifully with roasted vegetables or a fresh salad. Serve with a side of mashed potatoes or grilled corn for a hearty meal. Consider accompanying it with a dipping sauce like the Creole Seafood Cocktail Sauce for a flavorful contrast. A glass of red wine can also complement the rich flavors of the meat.

Storage & Reheating

Store any leftover rub in an airtight container in a cool, dry place for up to 6 months. If you have cooked meat leftovers, let them cool completely before wrapping tightly in foil or placing in a container. Reheat gently in the oven to preserve moisture and flavor, or quickly on a skillet over low heat.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use this rub on vegetables?

Absolutely! This dry rub works wonderfully on a variety of vegetables. Toss your favorite veggies like bell peppers, zucchini, or mushrooms with olive oil and the rub before grilling or roasting for a flavorful side dish.

How long should I marinate the meat?

For optimal flavor, marinate your meat with the rub for at least 1 hour, but overnight is even better. This allows the spices to penetrate and enhances the overall taste. Just remember to keep it covered in the refrigerator during this time.

Is it necessary to use olive oil?

While olive oil helps the rub adhere to the meat and adds moisture, you can substitute it with another oil like canola or avocado oil. Just be sure whatever oil you choose has a high smoke point for grilling or roasting.
