Tips & Substitutions

For a deeper flavor, consider using a combination of black and white pepper or add some crushed red pepper flakes for a bit of heat. If you don't have soy sauce, tamari or coconut aminos can serve as great substitutes. Always allow the roast to come to room temperature before cooking for even doneness. For a twist, try using a mix of herbs like rosemary or thyme in the marinade.

Serving Suggestions

Peppered roast is delicious served hot with roasted vegetables or creamy mashed potatoes for a comforting meal. Cold slices make a great sandwich filling or salad topping, pairing well with a tangy dressing. It also complements sides like Clara'S Dill Pickles, offering a refreshing contrast to the rich flavors of the beef.

Storage & Reheating

Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. To reheat, wrap the roast in foil and place it in a preheated oven at 325°F until warmed through, about 20-30 minutes. For best results, slice the meat before reheating to ensure even warming.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use a different cut of meat for this recipe?

Yes, you can use other cuts like sirloin or flank steak, but cooking times may vary. Leaner cuts may cook faster and require less time in the oven. Just ensure you adjust the marinating time based on the cut to keep the meat tender and flavorful.

What can I do if I don't have vinegar?

If vinegar isn't on hand, you can substitute it with lemon juice or apple cider vinegar for a similar acidity. Additionally, a splash of white wine can also work well to balance the flavors in the marinade without overwhelming the roast.

How can I tell when the roast is done?

To check for doneness, use a meat thermometer; the internal temperature should reach 145°F for medium-rare and 160°F for medium. You can also check if the meat is tender by gently poking it with a fork; it should feel soft and give easily.
