Ingredients

  • 2 c. flour
  • 3 tsp. baking powder
  • 2 tsp. sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 tsp. cream of tartar
  • 1/2 c. Crisco
  • 3/4 c. milk

Instructions

  1. Mix the flour, baking powder, sugar, salt, and cream of tartar in a bowl.
  2. Add Crisco and cut in with a pastry cutter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Pour in the milk and stir only until just moistened.
  4. Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead 8 to 10 times.
  5. Roll out the dough and cut with a biscuit cutter.
  6. Place the biscuits on a cookie sheet and bake at 475°F for 10 to 12 minutes.
  7. Serve hot with butter and honey.
