Ingredients

  • 3 eggs
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 2 Tbsp. soft butter or margarine
  • 3 3/4 c. sifted all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 3/4 tsp. nutmeg
  • 2/3 c. buttermilk, salad oil or shortening

Instructions

  1. In large bowl of electric mixer at high speed, beat eggs with sugar and butter until very light and fluffy, about 2 minutes. Scrape sides of bowl occasionally.
  2. Sift flour with baking powder, soda, salt and nutmeg; set aside.
  3. At low speed, gradually beat buttermilk into egg and sugar mixture.
  4. Add flour mixture gradually; beat at low speed just until smooth.
  5. Dough will be soft.
  6. Then deep fry.
