Ingredients

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 1/4 cups shortening
  • 1 egg
  • 5 tablespoons water
  • 1 tablespoon vinegar

Instructions

  1. Sift together the dry ingredients: flour, sugar, salt, and baking powder.
  2. Cut in the shortening until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Combine the egg, water, and vinegar in a separate bowl.
  4. Sprinkle 4 tablespoons of the egg mixture over the flour mixture and mix with a fork.
  5. Add 4 more tablespoons of the mixture and continue mixing until the pastry holds together.
  6. Gather the dough with your hands and press into a ball.
  7. Wrap the dough in clear plastic wrap.
  8. Chill for 15 minutes in the refrigerator.
  9. Divide the chilled dough into 4 parts.
  10. Roll out each part between clear plastic wrap to form 4 crusts.
