Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 2 packets yeast
  • 1 egg
  • 1 stick margarine
  • 2 cups water
  • about 6 cups flour

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine sugar, salt, yeast, and 2 cups of flour.
  2. In a pan, heat margarine and water until very warm (120° to 130°).
  3. Beat the liquid into the dry mixture until blended.
  4. Increase speed to medium and beat for 2 minutes.
  5. Beat in the egg.
  6. Continue beating for 2 minutes more.
  7. Stir in the remaining 3 to 4 cups of flour to make a soft dough.
  8. Turn the dough onto a floured surface.
  9. Knead for 10 minutes.
  10. Shape the dough into a ball and let rest for 10 minutes.
  11. Shape the dough into rolls and let rise for 1 hour.
  12. Bake in a 400°F (200°C) oven for 15 to 20 minutes.
