Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons melted shortening or oil
  • 2 cups sifted all-purpose flour
  • 3 tablespoons sugar
  • 3 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Combine milk, beaten egg, and melted shortening or oil in a mixing bowl.
  2. Sift together all-purpose flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt in a separate bowl.
  3. Add the dry ingredients to the liquid mixture and stir with 25 to 30 strokes until just combined.
  4. Fill greased muffin pans two-thirds full with the batter.
  5. Bake in a preheated oven at 400°F (200°C) for 15 minutes for small muffins or 30 minutes for large muffins.
