Instructions

  1. Place one ham slice over each pork chop.

  3. Place on grill, low or medium heat, and cook for 45 minutes to 1 hour, turning every 10 minutes, until the meat is tender.

  6. Place the cooked pork on a plate.

  8. Light the brandy with a long match just before serving.
  9. Serve on a bed of cooked white or wild rice, if desired.

Tips & Substitutions

For a flavorful twist, consider using Tennessee Country Ham instead of regular ham for a smokier taste. If you're short on time, pre-cooked bacon can save some cooking time. To ensure even cooking, make sure your grill is properly preheated and maintain a consistent low to medium heat throughout the cooking process.

Serving Suggestions

Serve the Pork Cordon Bleu over a bed of fluffy cooked rice, which absorbs the rich flavors of the brandy sauce. Pair it with a refreshing Vegetable And Fruit Salad for a balanced meal. For a heartier side, Dot'S Favorite Potato Salad complements the dish well, adding creaminess to the meal.

Storage & Reheating

Leftover Pork Cordon Bleu can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. To reheat, place the pork in a preheated oven at 350°F for about 10-15 minutes, or until heated through. Avoid microwaving, as it may result in a rubbery texture.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use different types of cheese for this recipe?

Absolutely! While American cheese is traditional, feel free to experiment with Swiss or provolone cheese for a different flavor profile. Just ensure that the cheese melts well, enhancing the dish's creaminess.

What can I use instead of brandy?

If you prefer not to use brandy, you can substitute it with chicken or vegetable broth for a non-alcoholic version. Alternatively, apple juice or white wine can add a pleasant sweetness and depth of flavor.

How can I tell when the pork is cooked properly?

The pork is properly cooked when it reaches an internal temperature of 145°F. Use a meat thermometer to check, and ensure the juices run clear. The pork should be tender and the bacon crispy for the best results.
