Ingredients

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup softened shortening
  • 1 egg
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1/2 pound sesame seed
  • 1 teaspoon orange or vanilla flavoring
  • 5 cups flour
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons baking powder

Instructions

  1. Cream the shortening, sugar, and egg together.
  2. Gradually add half of the milk and the flavoring, and blend well.
  3. Sift together the flour, salt, and baking powder into a bowl.
  4. Make a hollow in the center of the dry ingredients and gradually blend in the sugar mixture.
  5. Mix until the liquid is absorbed. If too dry, gradually add the remaining milk to make a soft, manageable dough.
  6. Mix lightly.
  7. Pat the dough into a ball.
  8. Wrap in waxed paper and refrigerate for 30 minutes or more.
