Ingredients

  • 2 cups flour
  • 3 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 4 tablespoons shortening
  • 2/3 to 3/4 cup milk
  • 3 cups chopped apples
  • 1/2 cup sugar

Instructions

  1. Sift flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar together.
  2. Cut in shortening and add milk to make a soft dough.
  3. Toss the dough onto a floured board and knead gently.
  4. Roll out the dough to 1/4-inch thickness and brush with melted butter or margarine.
  5. Cover the dough with chopped apples and sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon.
  6. Roll the dough as for a jelly roll and shape into a large crescent on a greased baking sheet.
  7. Bake in a 425°F oven for 20 to 25 minutes.
  8. While still warm, frost with confectioners' sugar frosting and sprinkle with chopped nuts.
