Ingredients

  • 5 cups flour
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 4 teaspoons baking powder
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1/2 cup melted shortening
  • 1/2 teaspoon soda
  • 2 packages dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 2 cups buttermilk

Instructions

  1. Combine all dry ingredients in a large bowl.
  2. Add warm water, buttermilk, and melted shortening to the dry mixture.
  3. Mix well, cover, and refrigerate for 12 hours or longer.
  4. Stir the chilled dough and drop into greased muffin cups.
  5. Let the dough rise in muffin pans until doubled in size.
  6. Bake at 400°F (200°C) for 20 minutes until golden brown.
