Ingredients

  • 4 1/2 to 5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 packages yeast or quick rise yeast
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup raisins

Instructions

  1. In a large mixer bowl, combine 2 cups of flour, yeast, sugar, salt, and cinnamon.
  2. Mix well.
  3. Heat milk, water, and butter until very warm (120° to 130°F); butter does not need to melt.
  4. Add the warm milk mixture to the flour mixture.
  5. Add the egg.
  6. Beat at low speed until moistened; then beat 3 minutes at medium speed.
  7. By hand, add raisins and enough remaining flour to make a firm dough.
  8. Knead on a well-floured surface until smooth and elastic, about 5 to 10 minutes.
  9. Place the dough in a greased bowl, turning to grease the top.
  10. Cover and let rise in a warm place for 40 minutes (or 20 minutes if using quick rise yeast).
