Ingredients

  • 2 1/4 cups sugar
  • 3/4 cup evaporated milk
  • 2 (6 oz.) packages semi-sweet chocolate pieces
  • 1/3 cup Karo syrup (red or blue label)
  • 3 tablespoons butter or margarine
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 cup chopped nuts

Instructions

  1. Combine sugar and evaporated milk in a heavy pan.
  2. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until it boils.
  3. Turn down the heat to prevent scorching.
  4. Cook for an additional 10 minutes.
  5. Remove from heat and immediately add chocolate pieces, Karo syrup, butter, and vanilla. Stir well until the chocolate melts and the mixture is smooth and creamy.
  6. Add chopped nuts and mix until well blended.
  7. Pour into an unbuttered 8-inch pan surface.
  8. Let it set rapidly and spread quickly with a spatula.
  9. Chill for 1 to 2 hours or until firm.
  10. Cut into squares and serve.
