Ingredients

  • 14 oz. package caramel candies
  • 1/3 cup evaporated milk
  • 1 package German chocolate cake mix
  • 3/4 cup melted margarine
  • 1/3 cup evaporated milk
  • 1 cup pecans

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9 x 13-inch pan.
  2. Melt caramels with 1/3 cup evaporated milk in a double boiler or microwave until smooth.
  3. In a large bowl, combine the remaining ingredients, except chocolate chips, and mix by hand until the dough holds together.
  4. Press half of the dough into the prepared pan and bake for 6 to 8 minutes.
  5. Sprinkle chocolate chips over the baked crust.
  6. Spread the caramel mixture evenly over the chocolate chips.
  7. Crumble the remaining dough over the caramel layer.
  8. Bake for an additional 15 to 20 minutes until golden.
  9. Cool completely before cutting into squares.
