Ingredients

  • 2 c. sifted all-purpose flour
  • 4 tsp. double-acting baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 tsp. cream of tartar
  • 2 tsp. sugar
  • 1/2 c. shortening
  • 2/3 c. milk

Instructions

  1. Sift flour, baking powder, salt, cream of tartar, and sugar into a mixing bowl.
  2. Cut in shortening until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Add milk and stir with a fork until soft dough forms.
  4. Turn out onto a lightly floured board and cut with a glass.
  5. Make the dough thick.
  6. Bake on an ungreased baking sheet in a hot oven at 450°F for 10 to 12 minutes or until done.
