Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup lukewarm milk
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 yeast cake
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/4 cup soft shortening
  • 2 1/2 cups sifted flour

Instructions

  1. Mix together the milk, sugar, and salt; crumble yeast into the mixture.
  2. Add beaten egg and soft shortening; stir until shortening is melted.
  3. Add sifted flour and beat for 1 minute, at least 100 strokes.
  4. Scrape down from sides of the bowl.
  5. Cover with a damp cloth and let rise at 85°F until doubled in bulk, about 1 3/4 hours.
