- Wipe mushrooms clean.
- Leave mushrooms whole but remove stems (which can be used for soup).
- Lightly oil the bottom of a pan or skillet. Put garlic in the bottom of the pan; add mushrooms, water or wine, and pepper.
- Cover the pan.
- Stir frequently and cook for about 5 minutes.
