Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 3 to 4 onions, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, chopped
  • 2 (12 oz.) cans tomato paste
  • 2 (12 oz.) cans tomato sauce
  • 1 (12 oz.) can water
  • 2 to 3 tablespoons white sugar
  • salt to taste
  • pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Brown the chopped onions in olive oil.
  2. Add chopped garlic, tomato paste, tomato sauce, and water to the onions and garlic.
  3. Bring the mixture to a boil and cook for 30 minutes, stirring often.
  4. Add white sugar, salt, pepper, and a pinch of sweet basil.
  5. Reduce heat to low and cook for 1.5 hours, stirring often until flavors meld.
