Ingredients

  • 6 oz. chocolate bits
  • 6 oz. butterscotch bits
  • 1 can condensed milk
  • 1 cup coarsely chopped walnuts
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 cup walnut halves

Instructions

  1. Melt chocolate bits and butterscotch bits with condensed milk over boiling water until the mixture begins to thicken.
  2. Remove from heat.
  3. Add coarsely chopped walnuts and vanilla; blend well.
  4. Chill the mixture for about 1 hour.
  5. Line the bottom of a 9-inch pie pan with foil.
  6. Place walnut halves in the bottom of the pan.
  7. Spread the chocolate mixture over the nuts to form a ring.
  8. Put additional walnut halves on top of the mixture.
  9. Chill until set.

Tips & Substitutions

For a richer flavor, consider using dark chocolate bits instead of semi-sweet. If you want a nut-free version, substitute the walnuts with crispy rice cereal for added texture. Make sure to chop the walnuts coarsely to distribute them evenly in the fudge, which will enhance the overall taste. Let it cool slightly before chilling to prevent any condensation from forming.

Serving Suggestions

This ring fudge is a delightful treat on its own but pairs beautifully with vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream for a decadent dessert. For a festive touch, serve it alongside slices of fruit or a cup of coffee. Consider presenting it on a decorative platter to enhance its appeal during gatherings or special occasions.

Storage & Reheating

Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week. If you want to keep it for longer, refrigerate the fudge, where it can last for up to two weeks. To serve chilled, simply let it sit at room temperature for a few minutes before slicing, as this will make it easier to cut.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use different types of nuts in this recipe?

Absolutely! You can substitute the walnuts with pecans or almonds for a different flavor profile. Just make sure to chop them coarsely, similar to the walnuts, to maintain the texture of the fudge. You could also leave the nuts out entirely for a nut-free treat.

How can I make this fudge vegan?

To make this fudge vegan, use dairy-free chocolate and butterscotch chips. Substitute the condensed milk with coconut milk or a non-dairy sweetened condensed milk alternative. This way, you can enjoy a delicious version of the fudge without any animal products.

What can I do if the fudge doesn't set properly?

If the fudge doesn't set, it could be due to insufficient chilling time or incorrect ratios of ingredients. To fix it, try placing it back in the refrigerator for a few more hours. If it still doesn't set, consider remelting the mixture and adding more chocolate bits to thicken it.
