Ingredients

  • 2 pkg. yeast
  • 1/2 c. lukewarm water
  • 1 1/2 c. sugar
  • 1/2 c. shortening
  • 1 tsp. nutmeg
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 8 eggs
  • 2 tsp. vanilla
  • 4 c. cake flour
  • 5 c. bread flour
  • 2 Tbsp. baking powder
  • 1 1/2 c. milk

Instructions

  1. Dissolve yeast in lukewarm water and let stand for 20 minutes.
  2. Cream sugar, shortening, nutmeg, and salt together.
  3. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  4. Stir in vanilla extract.
  5. Sift together cake flour, bread flour, and baking powder, then gradually add to the mixture.
  6. Slowly add milk, mixing until the dough is not too soft.
  7. Let the dough set for 30 minutes.
  8. Roll out the dough and cut with a donut cutter.
  9. Fry the donuts in deep fat at 350°F until golden brown.
  10. Dip the cooked donuts in sugar glaze and serve.
