Ingredients

  • 1 3/4 cups flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/3 cup safflower oil
  • 2/3 cup buttermilk

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 475°F (very hot).
  2. Mix flour, baking powder, and baking soda in a bowl.
  3. Pour safflower oil and buttermilk into a measuring cup without stirring.
  4. Pour all at once into the flour mixture.
  5. Stir with a fork until the mixture cleans the sides of the bowl and rounds into a ball.
  6. Knead the dough about 10 times without adding extra flour to smooth it.
  7. Press out the dough to 1/4-inch thickness on waxed paper using hands or a rolling pin.
  8. Cut out biscuits with an unfloured biscuit cutter.
  9. Bake on an ungreased baking sheet for 10 to 12 minutes until golden.
