Ingredients

  • 1 lb. golden raisins
  • 2 c. sugar
  • 1 tsp. ground cinnamon
  • 2 c. water
  • 2 Tbsp. butter
  • 3 c. sifted flour
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp. cloves
  • pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. In a saucepan over medium heat, combine raisins, sugar, cinnamon, and water and bring to a boil for 5 minutes.
  2. Stir in the butter; set aside to cool.
  3. Sift together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, cloves, and salt.
  4. Add the flour mixture to the cooled sugar-water mixture and mix well.
  5. Turn the batter into a lightly greased tube pan.
  6. Bake at 325°F (160°C) for 1 1/2 hours or until a cake tester comes out clean.
