Sausage bread combines tender dough with savory sausage, melty cheeses, and garlic for a flavorful, crowd-pleasing pastry perfect for breakfast, brunch, or casual gatherings.

Ingredients

  • 2 tsp margarine
  • 2 tsp olive oil
  • 1 loaf frozen dough (1 lb.)
  • 10 oz cooked veal sausage or turkey sausage
  • 1 small garlic clove
  • 3 oz Provolone cheese

Instructions

  1. Heat margarine and olive oil over medium heat until bubbly.
  2. Add minced garlic; sauté until golden, about 1 minute.
  3. Press the thawed dough into a 17 x 10-inch rectangle on a baking sheet.
  4. Brush half of the garlic mixture onto the dough.
  5. Arrange Provolone slices over the dough.
  6. Top with cooked sausage and sprinkle shredded Mozzarella cheese.
  7. Press the sausage and cheese firmly into the dough, starting from the wide end.
  8. Roll the dough jelly roll fashion to form a log.
  9. Pinch to enclose the filling and pinch the ends closed.
  10. Place the roll seam side down onto a nonstick baking sheet.
  11. Brush the remaining garlic mixture over the top of the roll.
  12. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 30 to 35 minutes or until golden brown.
  13. If the bread is browning too quickly, cover with foil.
  14. Cool for 15 minutes before slicing and serving.
