Savory Pilaf
Ingredients
- 1/2 c. long grain rice (white or brown) ⓘ
- 1 chicken bouillon cube
- 1/4 c. margarine ⓘ
- 1/2 c. chopped celery ⓘ
- 1/2 c. sliced mushrooms (2 1/2 oz. jar), drained ⓘ
- 1/4 c. water chestnuts, sliced (optional) ⓘ
- 1 c. wheat bran cereal ⓘ
- 1/4 tsp. ground sage ⓘ
- 1/4 tsp. basil leaves ⓘ
- 1/8 tsp. pepper ⓘ
- 1/2 c. water ⓘ
Instructions
- Cook rice according to package directions (don't use salt or butter).
- Substitute the bouillon cube.
- While rice cooks, melt butter in large skillet.
- Add onion, celery, mushrooms and water chestnuts.
- Cook over medium heat (stir several times) until celery is almost tender.
- Gently add cooked rice, sage, cereal, basil, pepper and water.
- Cover and cook over very low heat about 15 minutes.
- Serve immediately.
