Ingredients

  • 2 1/4 cups sifted cake flour
  • 1 1/3 cups sugar
  • 2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup soft shortening
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 1 cup milk
  • 3 egg whites

Instructions

  1. Mix all dry ingredients and 2/3 cup of milk.
  2. Beat for 2 minutes.
  3. Add remaining milk, egg whites, and vanilla; beat for 2 more minutes.
  4. Pour batter into two greased and floured cake pans.
  5. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 30 to 35 minutes.
  6. Frost with your favorite frosting.
