Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 8 tablespoons cold unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2/3 cup milk

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 425°F.
  2. Put flour, baking powder, and salt into a large bowl; stir to mix well.
  3. Add cold, unsalted butter and cut in with a pastry blender or rub in with your fingers until the mixture looks like fine granules.
  4. Add sugar; toss to mix.
  5. Add milk and stir with a fork until soft dough forms.
  6. Form dough into a ball; put on a lightly floured board and give 10 to 12 kneads.
  7. Roll out dough to about 12 x 5 1/2 inches.
  8. Cut with a 2-inch cutter.
  9. Bake for 12 to 15 minutes.
  10. Serve warm with butter, honey, or preserves.
