Ingredients

  • 2/3 cup self-rising meal
  • 2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 egg

Instructions

  1. Put 1/2 inch of fat in the skillet.
  2. Place the skillet in a preheated oven to heat while mixing the bread.
  3. Mix the wet ingredients: milk and egg.
  4. Mix the dry ingredients: self-rising meal, baking powder, and salt, then combine both mixtures.
  5. Pour the batter into the hot skillet and bake for 20 minutes at 425°F or until the top is crusty and brown.
  6. This recipe doubles and triples easily, but for best results, must be cooked in an iron skillet.
