Ingredients

  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 4 large cooking apples
  • 5 tablespoons butter

Instructions

  1. Combine sugar, ground nutmeg, ground cinnamon, and salt in a bowl.
  2. Wash, core, and slice the apples into 1/2-inch thick slices.
  3. Heat butter in a heavy skillet over medium heat.
  4. Add apple slices and half of the sugar mixture; cook for about 3 minutes, turning the apples to coat.
  5. Sprinkle the remaining sugar mixture over the apples and continue cooking until the apples are almost transparent and tender.
  6. Serve hot.
