Spiced Asparagus

Spiced asparagus tips are preserved in a tangy, sweet and aromatic vinegar marinade with cinnamon and cloves, creating a flavorful side perfect for entertaining or gourmet snacking.

Ingredients

  • 2 small cans asparagus tips
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 or more sticks cinnamon
  • 2/3 cup dark vinegar
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 6 whole cloves

Instructions

  1. Drain asparagus and place in a shallow glass serving dish.
  2. Measure spices and add to other ingredients in a saucepan.
  3. Heat slowly until sugar is completely dissolved, about 5 to 10 minutes.
  4. Pour the hot vinegar mixture over the asparagus.
  5. Refrigerate until ready to serve.
  6. Drain before serving.
  7. Best when left for 24 hours.
