Spicy Stuffed Mandarins

- Wash mandarins, cover with water, and simmer for 20 minutes.
- Drain and cool enough to handle.
- Cut off a 1/4-inch top of each mandarin.
- Insert half of a pitted date into the core of each mandarin.
- Mix sugar, water, light corn syrup, white wine vinegar, whole cloves, and salt; heat to boiling, stirring until sugar is dissolved.
- Place mandarins in a baking dish.
- Pour 1/2 teaspoon of syrup over each filled mandarin and replace the top.
- Pour the remaining syrup over the mandarins.
- Bake in a 350°F oven for 20 minutes.
- Cool mandarins in syrup, then drain before serving.
