Ingredients

  • 2 cups flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 2 tablespoons Crisco oil
  • 1 cup milk

Instructions

  1. Mix flour, salt, baking powder, and oil.
  2. Add milk and stir until combined.
  3. Put the dough on a floured board and knead.
  4. Roll out to about 1/4-inch thickness.
  5. Spread soft butter on one-half of the dough.
  6. Fold the other half over to cover the butter.
  7. Cut out biscuits with a biscuit cutter.
  8. Heat a pan with enough oil to dip both sides of the biscuits.
  9. Bake in a preheated 350°F oven until golden brown.
  10. Optional fillings include grated cheese, chopped sausage, bacon, ham, chicken, or sweet spreads like cinnamon sugar or jams.
  11. Serve with butter.
