Ingredients

  • 1 pkg. yellow cake mix
  • ingredients to prepare cake mix (e.g., eggs, oil, water)
  • 1 qt. fresh strawberries, hulled and sliced
  • 1 c. caramel or butterscotch ice cream topping

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease bottoms of 4 (9-inch) round cake pans.
  2. Prepare yellow cake mix according to package directions.
  3. Bake the cakes and remove from oven. Let cool completely.
  4. Place one cake layer on a serving plate. Frost the top with vanilla frosting in swirls resembling whipped butter.
  5. Add a layer of sliced strawberries on top of the frosting.
  6. Repeat the process with the next two layers: cake, frosting, strawberries.
  7. Top with the remaining cake layer. Pile frosting in the center and garnish with strawberries.
  8. Warm the caramel or butterscotch topping and drizzle over the top to resemble syrup.
