- Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease bottoms of 4 (9-inch) round cake pans.
- Prepare yellow cake mix according to package directions.
- Bake the cakes and remove from oven. Let cool completely.
- Place one cake layer on a serving plate. Frost the top with vanilla frosting in swirls resembling whipped butter.
- Add a layer of sliced strawberries on top of the frosting.
- Repeat the process with the next two layers: cake, frosting, strawberries.
- Top with the remaining cake layer. Pile frosting in the center and garnish with strawberries.
- Warm the caramel or butterscotch topping and drizzle over the top to resemble syrup.
