- Prepare 1 box of Jell-O with 1 1/2 cups boiling water, then pour into a 9 x 13-inch glass dish and refrigerate until set.
- Scald milk and sugar together in a saucepan.
- Soften the gelatin in cold water, then add it to the hot milk and sugar mixture, stirring until dissolved.
- Let the milk and gelatin mixture cool to lukewarm, then stir or beat in sour cream until smooth.
- Once the first layer of Jell-O is set, pour on 1 cup of the white filling and refrigerate until it is firm.
- Prepare the second box of Jell-O so it remains at room temperature when the white layer is ready to be poured.
- Keep layering the Jell-O and white filling, ending with a layer of Jell-O on top.
- If the white mixture begins to set in the pan, heat it slightly and stir until liquefied and smooth.
