Ingredients

  • 6 large cooking apples
  • 2/3 cup sugar
  • 1/3 cup soft margarine
  • 3/4 cup orange juice
  • 1/3 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 egg
  • whipped cream

Instructions

  1. Peel and core the apples.
  2. Combine flour, sugar, and cinnamon in a bowl.
  3. Cut margarine into the flour mixture using two knives or a pastry blender until the mixture resembles coarse cornmeal.
  4. Brush the apples with beaten egg.
  5. Roll the brushed apples in the flour mixture to coat thoroughly.
  6. Place the coated apples in a greased baking dish.
  7. Fill the cavities of the apples with any remaining flour mixture.
  8. Pour orange juice into the bottom of the dish around the apples.
  9. Bake uncovered at 350°F (175°C) for 1 hour or until the apples are tender.
  10. Serve warm with pan juices and whipped cream.
