- Let milk, sugar, and shortening come almost to a boil.
- Allow the mixture to cool to lukewarm.
- Add yeast to lukewarm water and let it activate.
- When the milk mixture is warm, add the yeast mixture.
- Add enough flour to make a batter like cake batter.
- Set aside for 2 hours to let the batter rise.
- After rising, add salt, baking powder, baking soda, and enough flour to make a handleable dough.
- Divide the dough into rolls and place in a large bowl.
- Refrigerate or let the rolls rise for 2 hours before baking.
- Bake at 450° to 475° until done.
