- Melt shortening in boiling water or scalded milk; cool slightly.
- In a large bowl, combine melted shortening, eggs, sugar, salt, cold water, and the dissolved yeast.
- Gradually add flour, mixing until a soft dough forms.
- Knead the dough until smooth and elastic.
- Cover and let the dough rise until doubled, about 1 to 1.5 hours.
- Punch down the dough and shape into rolls.
- Place the rolls on a greased baking sheet and let rise again until doubled, about 30-45 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Bake the rolls for 15 minutes or until golden brown.
- Remove from oven and serve warm.
