Swedish Toast(Cookie Bars)

Ingredients

  • 1/2 c. softened butter
  • 1/2 c. Crisco
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1 egg plus 1 yolk
  • 2 c. flour
  • 1/2 tsp. baking powder
  • pinch of salt
  • 1 Tbsp. almond flavoring
  • egg white
  • 1 small pkg. slivered or sliced almonds

Instructions

  1. Cream butter, Crisco and sugar.
  2. Add egg and yolk.
  3. Add dry ingredients.
  4. Add flavoring last.
  5. Spread on a 13 x 9-inch cookie sheet.
  6. Beat egg white until frothy.
  7. Brush over dough.
  8. Sprinkle on almonds.
  9. Bake in a 350° oven for 12 to 15 minutes or until light brown.
  10. Take out of oven and cut into squares.
  11. Turn off oven and put cookie sheet back in oven; leave overnight.*
  12. Store in tightly sealed container.
